The Three-Year Mindset Shift: How Canadian Firms Embraced Offshore Teams
The Canadian accounting industry's attitude toward offshore teams has transformed dramatically since 2022. Here's the three-year evolution we witnessed firsthand at Accountex Canada.
One of the most striking insights from Accountex Canada this year was this:
Firm owners have become far more open to offshore solutions.
Three years of conversations revealed a clear evolution in mindset.

Year One: The Resistance Phase
We spent most of our time introducing ourselves repeatedly. When we mentioned the Philippines, people walked away. The concept felt uncomfortable to most leaders.
Year Two: Cautious Curiosity Emerges
After our speaking session, recognition improved. Firm owners began asking follow-up questions. They weren’t ready — but they weren’t dismissive either.
Year Three: Active Exploration Begins
Everything felt different.
Attendees remembered us. Many approached our booth proactively. They wanted details — real, operational details — about integrating an offshore team.
We had deeper discussions around onboarding, training methods, blending offshore with local staff, productivity expectations, and communication rhythms.
The Conversation That Changed Everything
In our first Accountex, we approached a firm owner and asked about her practice. She confirmed she was the owner — then immediately said:
“No, I will not speak to you. I do not send work abroad.”
This year, that same firm owner approached us and said:
“Can you send me information? I’m considering offloading some work.”
Her challenges had intensified. Her perspective had changed.
And that shift took three years of consistent presence.
What This Evolution Means for Canadian Firms
In Part 3, we’ll share the three critical questions firm owners asked us — and what they reveal about what Canadian firms truly value.
